Telnet question

I'm using the telnet client from commons-net.
 
I'm getting the error:
-SET-I-UNKTERM, unknown terminal type
 
Does this mean the telnet client doesn't support the terminal type being set by the server or the other way around?  Or does it mean something completely different?
