using file protocol

Hi,
I would like to use the file-protocal plugin. I thought it would crawl 
the filesystem starting from the adress I gave the crawl command. But it 
seems to index only one file. If this file is a directory, the plugin 
creates a html-page and only indexes this one page and does not crawl 
the links of this file.

Any helping tips?
