It should be possible to have the gateway automatically follow redirects generated by WebHDFS.  This makes it far easier to use by the clients.  However to remain compatible with WebHDFS this cannot be the default behavior.  During a discussion with Jeff 20130103 we decided two things.
1. The default behavior should be settable at the gateway level.  If unspecified the default must be to not follow redirects.
2. A query parameter should be used to override the default global setting.  For example ?follow-redirects=true|false
