defunct processes

We installed 0.6.2 at   http://xxx.lanl.gov/ the other day, and
by boss complained this morning than it didn't get rid of zombie
processes "as advertised" (no linger thingy).

I suggested he try 0.6.3 which has the SYSV signal flag "fix"...
now he says there are even more defunct processes there (they are
httpd not the cgi scripts)

System: HPsUX

Anyone have any ideas ?
