Spellcheck and Updates

Hi!
Have not been able to use spellcheck or Update for a while. All words are rejected as mispelled <. 
Updates show following:



Checking for an update failed.

Error reading data from the Internet.Server error message: .
 Please advise

The update problem is a known issue; version 4.1.7 is the latest version 
of Apache OpenOffice. Just go to http://www.openoffice.org/download/ if 
you need to download a later version than you have. For extensions, 
you'll have to check the individual extension pages for updates.
