Looks like the root cause is related to the "width of output" when cqlsh prints it. I've tried to find the commit at started the issues appeared from and it is reproducible in 3.11.4 (probably even earlier, but I stopped on this version). I doubt the problem was actual back then. Looks like it is somewhow related to either cqlsh internals or to some environmental magic (e.g. Python internals).
Anyway this problem was fixed in 4.0 as a part of the below commit:
