Java Translets: compiled XSLT
       11:00, 14 Jun 2000 UTC | Leigh Dodds

Sun Microsystems are developing an XSLT compiler capable of
producing compiled Java classes from XSLT stylesheets.

The 'Translets' technology is being demonstrated at the XSL
Europe 2000 conference. A demonstration version of the
application, complete with source, is expected to be released at
       the end of the month.

The compiler currently only supports a subset of the XSLT
specification, but work is continuing to add full conformance
       to the Recommendation.

The Translets are based on an optimised DOM
implementation to give high performance; potentially
outstripping XT. The DOM implementation is under internal
       development by Sun.
