[DISCUSS] Revision to Falcon Logo

Hello everyone, Julian Hyde has pointed out that the Falcon logo resembles an Eagle more than Falcon. I know that we have been using this logo quite widely and it might be a challenge to change it. However if there is enough consensus on this, we can fix this. Please vote.

I googled for images of
Falcon<https://www.google.co.in/search?q=falcon&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ofWzUvSdCcWOrQfju4GoDw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=639>and
Eagle<https://www.google.co.in/search?q=eagle&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=6fWzUqyaHcGNrQf1sIGoDg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=639>
. In logo we have a sketch of Falcon , that to only from neck and above.
I dont think its possible to differentiate between Falcon / Eagle , and we
can continue to claim that its a Falcons neck :)

We if are thinking to change the logo, its better to have a full falcon
sketch .. one of these perhaps Falcon
Sketch<https://www.google.co.in/search?q=falcon+sketch&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=VPazUtStKsKPrQejhYD4Aw&ved=0CCgQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=639>
or if one of us is artist enough to contribute :P

Also one thing i noticed its not possible to see the whole logo on
http://falcon.incubator.apache.org/ , it is being covered by top dropdown
of various options .... ( in chrome browser atleast)

Thanks:
Samarth

-1. This logo is used already in multiple places and will be quite
confusing IMHO, esp for Hortonworks packaging Falcon as part of HDP.

May be it might be a good exercise to do now and change it when Falcon
becomes a TLP.

Agree with that, and I mentioned it for the same reason
The idea just popped up in my head, so shared. BTW, you can see this bird
from your office window as well.
Crunch folks recently ran a Logo competition, so we can think on those
lines as well.

While I have to acknowledge that the picture is indeed very beautiful, I have 2 comments1. Original concern from Julian Hyde that the logo doesn't really represent Falcon will remain (the new image isn't Falcon either)2. Animated image for a logo, allows us to make new and funny versions /variations of the logo for different usages
This discussion has to wait till we get enough votes in favor of the change though.

I have got an idea about new logo.

http://www.pbase.com/ashishpaliwal/image/153784346

Technically speaking it's not Falcon, it's Brahminy kite. Copyright won't
be an issue, as this is my image

The idea is pick this image, either give it some mechanical transformation
or monochrome, followed by bit streams.

10101010
     010101001 Bird's Image
10101010
     000111010

My photoshop skills are not so great, so might need some help. Let's wait
for the discussion result.

With name Falcon, the 1st that comes to my mind is Amur Falcons, which
migrate to India's North East regions.

Hi Ashish, This is just to seek opinion on changing the logo, if there is enough positive votes on this, then we should be able to put up a new logo for vote (that would follow).
My person opinion is that these are still early days and it shouldn't hurt to change the logo. (+1 from my side)
