BXE is excessively inserting paragraph tags
I thought I saw a post recently on this, but can't find it now.
I'm using Firefox (not sure if that matters) and BXE to edit a content
item - doesn't matter which of my doctypes - same result. If I edit any
item in BXE and use any of the markup controls (Bold, Italicize, etc.), it
seems that BXE surrounds the text that is highlighted with a set of
paragraph tags, such that if I try to bold the text "my text", it results
in: <strong><p>my test</p></strong> , when I view source on the webpage
after saving in BXE.
This has the effect of causing the bolded text to be in its own paragraph
and on its own line when viewing normally.
If I then edit the page using the One Form Editor (source editor), I do not
see any paragraph tags - only <xhtml:strong>my text</xhtml:strong>.
Has anyone experienced this wackiness? Is there a way to prevent it? Some
BXE configuration setting?

Hi
Yeah, doesn't really look like a BXE problem, but an XSLT (or something
else in the publish pipeline) problem

RE: BXE is excessively inserting paragraph tags
Posted by Ken Wasetis <kw...@sprinc.com>.
My original description wasn't clear enough. No, I don't immediately see
<p> tags in BXE and then they are gone when viewing in another editor.
What does happen:
In BXE, I highlight and bold some text using normal view (WYSIWYG mode).
The bolded text stays on the same line in this view - great.
I then switch to source view and can see that <strong></strong> tags
surround the text as expected - no <p> tags at this point.
I then select 'save and exit' and when the edited page returns, my
highlighted text is now in its own paragraph. When I view source on the
webpage (not in any integrated editor - just a browser view source), I see
the highlighted text is surrounded by <strong> and then <p> tags.
(<strong><p>my highlighted text</p></strong>
If I then edit this page with the One Form Editor, I do not see any <p> tags
within the <strong> tags.
If I edit the page with BXE again, I don't see <p> tags within <strong>
tags. Whether I switch to source or tag mode, there is no indication that
there are <p> tags within the <strong> tags while editing. Actually, while
editing in normal view mode in BXE, the highlighted text is in the same
paragraph and looks exactly as it did when I started out, except the text is
bold - just as expected.
Perhaps, since I don't see any <p> tags when using source view or when using
One Form Editor (nor when I open the file from the filesystem and edit),
there is some problem with my Cocoon transforming it incorrectly when it
renders the page? Perhaps it doesn't like the whitespace just before and
after the bolded text and so inserts a <p> tag? Seems crazy, though.
Since I don't see <p> tags in the actual source of the content, but I do see
them when viewing the source in my browser when viewing the page that is
messed up with the new paragraph with only the highlighted text in it, it
seems that maybe it's not a BXE problem, but is something on the XLST side.
I'm just really not doing anything special to insert <p> tags when finding
whitespace, though. Surprised others aren't seeing this behaviour.
Thanks for any help,
Ken
