It seems to be related to the call to ImmutableClassesGiraphConfiguration.createOutEdges() which doesn't initialize the OutEdges before it attempts to populate them via Vertex.initialize(). Simply switching to ImmutableClassesGiraphConfiguration.createAndInitializeOutEdges() seems to correct the following stack trace:
