Requiredif and Javascript

Has anyone ever enabled javascript validation on a form that included a 
requiredif rule?  

Is it correct to assume that this never should be done?

Because "field-test" is an illegal variable name in javascript it seems 
to me that this is the case.  

It is time for us to fish or cut bait.
