Using POI for showing Excel in a webpage - when existing excel window is open

Does anyone know how to display a webpage with the excel plugin when there is
a open excel window? It appears that this creates some problem with the
result that the user could be waiting on the webpage, while the spreadsheet
has been opened in the already open excel application.
