Is the backup.xxx.com is a DNS entry? Or just a name for your server?

Hi!

I have two apache servers.

One with A IP address and domain name(www.mydomain.com)

One with a IP address and domain name(www.backup.mydomain.com)

I want to change the name of the second  domain to www.myname.mydomain.com.

Where do I change it? Do I just change the A record? Do I change from the
apache server?

Can some help me or point to the website where I can read?

As you can tell from my wording I am a pretty new to this.
