November board report

We're up again.

First draft.

#####################
Lokahi is a configuration and management console for Apache httpd,
tomcat and other web server infrastructure.

Incubating since: 2006-01-07

Significant contributions have been made towards finishing the MySQL
port that was begun earlier this year. A Fast Feather presentation on
Lokahi has been scheduled for Apachecon in Atlanta.

Obstacles to graduation:
    * community - now includes authors outside of the original dev
community, but additional committers are sought. Recent distractions
reinforced the fact that a larger committer base is needed to graduate.
    * licensing - oracle-only backend is now 95% of the way to an
alternate MySQL backend, and soon to be enhanced with license agnostic
interfaces

#####################

Additions / Subtractions / Comments?

I'd like to post a final version for Friday.

Steve

Personally, I feel that a turn-key release with Derby bundled would be a
great help to getting people working with Lokahi.

I was just re-reading http://incubator.apache.org/lokahi/. Does Lokai also
support mod_proxy_ajp? And can we talk with the httpd and tomcat (to start,
since those are the only projects currently listed for support) folks about
promoting a Lokahi-based management solution to their user communities?

I noticed this discussion taking place - yet saw no real change because
the interpretation of the diversity rules as I understood them would not
have been fulfilled by the 10/2 you mentioned. However - point taken
and change will be made.

Yes - thanks for reminding me - and while I remember it something about
a binary release should be put in.

Thanks! One footnote...

s/distractions/distractions, and the temperature of discussions taking
place across projects on general@i.a.o/

The bar seems to be moving higher again. At one time, ten folks from one
BigCo and two other random committers would have been enough to meet the
letter (if not the spirit) of the diversity requirements, and that doesn't
seem to be the feeling of the general@i.a.o folks anymore.

Second Q, Did we want to take a page from the discussions this summer about
the value of providing easy-to-follow directions for getting Lokahi up and
running (especially as alternate DB backends arrive) to show people how
worthwhile it is to get involved? (Guess that could be a * users/community
bullet.)
