make configuration more flexible, and easier configuration based on jdk level
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

         Key: MCOMPILER-37
         URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MCOMPILER-37
     Project: Maven 2.x Compiler Plugin
        Type: Improvement

    Versions: 2.0
    Reporter: Brett Porter
     Fix For: 2.1

see: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/maven-users/200603.mbox/%3C9e3862d80603261452w509238afx9472b4850007f904@mail.gmail.com%3E and rest of that thread.

the plugin needs to be more flexible in regards to setting the compiler settings for the tests vs the main source tree, and could be easier to configure in general for different language settings.

Got this working. The trick is to add the same number of exclusions in both configuration. Reveals that internally the String array is simply reused without new initialization:

Aside from addressing the way plugin configurations are handled in the Maven core, I'm not sure what this issue is asking for.

Can some provide some clarity?
