[Bug 5093] New: SpamAssassin log to syslog
http://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=5093
Summary: SpamAssassin log to syslog
Product: Spamassassin
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P5
Component: spamassassin
AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
ReportedBy: kurt.buff@gmail.com
Since SpamAssassin is part of a complete system for many people (usually with
Amavisd-new), and not a stand-alone command line tool, would be useful to have
an invocation parameter or flag that would allow logging to syslog. Spamd
already logs to syslog, but SpamAssassin does not, and I find that behaviour
inconsistent.
Thanks,
Kurt

I mentioned this on the list, but I'll put it here as well, I also (in agreement
with Parker) don't really see the point.

yeah, I think I'd need a compelling use-case explained to me, to be convinced
that this is worth bothering with...

-1 to the command line tool writing to syslog.
There is plenty of support in the API for tools that use it to write the log
information wherever they choose. The spamassassin command is designed to run
from the command line so its output should go to stdout/stderr.
