   Is your development machine running Windows or OS X?  The compiler relies on the Java code page.  I think you may have to set (or export) JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS=-Dfile.encoding=UTF8
   
   If you are using an IDE, you may have to convince the IDE to start up with those options.
