Intermittant mail hang.
Hi,
Our James v2.0a3 server on Linux 7.3 (no sendmail installled) suffers
occassional mail hangs (2-8 times/week). Symptom is that user's POP3 client
tries to retrieve messages and gets none. User's inbox contains the
messages, usually with a large one of 2+ MB. Removing the large one does
not clear the problem nor does restarting James. Mail is stored in the
filesystem. POP3 log shows: "USER username PASS password STAT UIDL RETR 19
Connection closed." Config: <maxmessagesize>0</maxmessagesize>. Current
workaround is to empty the users inbox and operation returns to normal. I
found no messages in the mail archives which addressed this problem.
Any advice?

Thanks,
Dick

Dick,
My advice would be to upgrade to 2.1 and see if it resolves your
problem. There were a number of robustness/performance fixes in version
2.1. There is also substantially improved logging that should enable us
to diagnose your problem should it continue.

Dick,
There have been so many bug fixes in James since 2.0a3, including some
systemic ones that it is likely to have been fixed. No way to really know
without digging deeper into the cause of the problem? Since you can
reproduce this problem 2-8 times / week with 2.0a3, I suggest that you
upgrade to the current Milestone release and see if the problem has been
repaired, or if it still needs to be repaired.
