Airavata Wiki and Task List

Hi All,

Thanks to Uli from Infra to the cwiki space for airavata [1], we now have a Wiki - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/AIRAVATA. I believe at some point we will have a static wiki url - https://cwiki.apache.org/AIRAVATA/

I believe you will be able access the CWiki with your JIRA account but not fully sure, you can give it a try here [2]. if not you may want to sign up. If you have to explicitly create a Cwiki account, please try and create the same user name as your JIRA so we can link issues.

Now for the fun part, we need quite a few volunteers:
1) Wiki Administrators - this is what Uli told me in IRC - " Uli-:Suresh: the airavata-committers group has admin access to that space; Uli-:Suresh: under space administration you can change the security settings. confluence admins can add additional members to the airavata-committers group. one of your mentors surely has that powers;"
2) Set the Wiki Theme and try and give it a close look as the website
3) Configure the spaces so we have place pages for committers, contributors (with ICLA on file) and public.
4) Keep the *relatively static* content on website and migrate the dynamic content like tutorials to wiki
5) Create a documentation pack so we can have release specific documentation released with the binary
6) Create Java Docs especially for client API's and host it from wiki

Note: There is no rule to restrict yourself for one, you are welcome to volunteer for all :)

Cheers,
Suresh

Thanks for adding me. It seems that I had another cwiki account under my
apache id and I was unable to recover the password for it. I sent a request
to apache-infra. Once I sort out it there, will send the proper id with the
request.

Re: Committers: Create CWiki Accounts and send your id

Posted by Suresh Marru <sm...@apache.org>.
Hi All,

Please create CWIKI accounts [1] and send your id's, so we can file a infra ticket to add users to the right groups. We need to have three groups, airavata-committers, airavata-contributors-with-icla

Cheers,

Committers: Create CWiki Accounts and send your id

Posted by Suresh Marru <sm...@apache.org>.
PMC:

Please sign up for a cwiki account (if you already don't have one) at - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/login.action and send in your id. Once we gather all id's we need to ask infra or mentors to add them to the confluence airavata-committers group.

Thanks,
Suresh

P.S, Heshan, thanks for volunteering for wiki tasks. I manually added your cwiki id (heshan@apache.org) manually. But I suggest you send your correct id (I see two) so mentors can add to airavata-committers group.

Re: Airavata Wiki and Task List

Posted by Heshan Suriyaarachchi <he...@gmail.com>.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I applied some default themes that are
already available but it did not look good. I am going through some
Confluence plugins that can be used for building themes.

Hi Suresh,

It looks like ODE site is using custom export template. I am not sure
how they have configured the previous URL I sent to display the
exported version. I'll try to contact Tammo and see how they have done
it.

Hi Milinda,

I totally agree with you, I even yet did not figure out how the auto-export works you can see the navigation difference between [1] and [2]

Do you know which theme ODE uses? I picked the documentation theme.

Re: Airavata Wiki and Task List

Posted by Milinda Pathirage <mi...@gmail.com>.
Hi Devs,

If I am not logged into the cwiki, navigation is pretty bad in the
current template of AIRAVATA wiki. ODE[1] uses cwiki to manage whole
site and it renders nicely even though you are not logged in.

It's better if we can apply a theme with better navigation.

Thanks
Milinda

Hi Heshan,

I am not sure I have specific ideas per say, but here are some needs of tutorials/documentation:

Tutorials:
It could be divided into three categories:
* Basic functional walkthrough - this tutorial should be as simple as possible. This tutorial should have as minimal setup as possible so the community should be encouraged to quickly run through to validate the releases and so on.
* Intermediate - These tutorial(s) should also require minimal configuration, but can assume multiple steps, like first register your application, second construct a graph, third execute, fourth browse outputs and so on. These set of tutorials should give the user a decent idea about Airavata and encourage them to look further.
* Advanced - These tutorials might assume pre-requisite expertise and focus on specific areas like grid job management, provenance aware workflows and so on.

Documentation:
I did not think much here, but at the minimum we should clearly separate out user and developer (API) documentation. We should start writing more and more of how to build over Airavata using the API docs and sandbox examples.

I might need some time to write up some more tutorials as well. Let me know
if you have any ideas on what I should writeup or include in the
documentation.

Hi Heshan,

Glad to see all your efforts in getting the WIk loaded up, its coming out really well. Also, I noticed that you are duplicate lot of website content as well, but I think it will be better if we leave the relatively static content like About Airavata, License, Community and so on the website and only have documentation like moving parts on the wiki. Its totally fine to have it on the wiki, but we should remove it from website. The duplication may get out of sync and lead to confusion which should be followed.

I can volunteer to clean up the website/wiki once you get the finish your initial pass on the wiki.

Re: Airavata Wiki and Task List

Posted by Heshan Suriyaarachchi <he...@gmail.com>.
Hi All,

I created the Airavata documentation content in the wiki. This is just an
initial look how the documentation for the next release will look like. I
will add more tutorials to the documentation section as we go along. I
would appreciate feedback/suggestions regarding [1].

BTW I have not added the images for the tutorials for now. I will be adding
them later.

Hi Suresh,

I would like to volunteer for this.

I think we have to create a separate account. I was not able to login to it
using my JIRA account credentials.
