Success/Failure statistics in a test

Hi,
does JMeter collect and display result data such as succes/failure stats?
(I'd like to count the number of dropped requests or result data that don't
pass an Assertion).

In particular, I've extended JMeter to test my network server (a TSA
Server).
In case of failure, I set the value of SampleResult.SUCCESS to "false" in
the returned SampleResult object.
How does JMeter keep track of these results?

(I'm using JMeter 1.7 beta 2)
