Woops, this actually isn't a problem for the 1.8.0 release.  The current 1.8 branch is broken (at least, it is broken as of 63364d53eea0063199d4c3097ac363e5b2414f38).  Some commit must have messed it up after 1.8.0 was released but before this commit.
