EntityReference has been falling apart over the years, and is nothing more than a wrapper for an Identity, once POLYGENE-180 is fully resolved.

EntityReference should probably just be removed and replaced with Identity. Another possibility is that it also contains the EntityDescriptor for the identified entity. Either way, some change is needed.
