mailing lists: moderation and setup

Dave(J),

We seem to have some problems with the mailing lists.  People are trying 
to subscribe to -private but after a "confirm" exchange nothing seems to 
happen.

I was expecting to receive moderator email requests but I've received 
nothing (spam folders don't seem to have anything in them from anything 
likely looking. but.).
