Scalability of SOAP listener

Has anyone looked at how the soap listener scales?  For example if many 
classes are deployed on one soap listener is there a likelihood of a 
performance problem?  Apache SOAP seems to limit the location of the 
deployed services to a single box, meaning that if you wanted multiple boxes 
then you would require multiple listeners.  Has anyone done any 
investigation into this area?
