Maven standalone jar: how?

Hi all,

While getting maven b9 to (not) work, adding the property 
maven.jar.mainclass=ClassToRun to project.properties allowed me to 
create a jar that could be executed from the command line.

Having reverted to maven b8, this no longer works, and there seems to 
exist no manual for b8. What is the correct procedure to make a jar file 
executable from the command line in maven b8?
