I think this is ready for commit, but what's the conclusion on the appropriate action to take?
Given that we have PDFs in addition to the HTML pages version, shall we err on the side of caution and remove the HTML Book version?

Note that the references to monohtml books had already been removed from the trunk and 10.9 versions of index.html. It's worth checking 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, and 10.7 to make sure that monohtml references have been removed from those branches too.

+1 to removing the entries. I have no idea whether or not we are allowed to publish the old versions of the monohtml docs, or what the consequences are if we publish them without being allowed to do so, but I don't see that they provide enough value that having them on the website is worth the risk.
If I read the patch correctly, it only removes the links, but the docs are still there. Are you planning to remove the actual docs as well in another patch?

Thanks for the fixes, Kristian. The distance between the titles and links seems to be dependent on the width of my browser window, so it is not too serious a problem.

I have been thinking about this, and looking on web sites, and it seems to me I have been misunderstanding the meaning of 'derived work'.

Thus, the monohtml docs are *not* a derived work. They're the result of using the original. Thus, no notice is necessary.
So, we don't need to remove them - at least not from old versions.
Does this make sense?
I think it is still a good idea to remove the file, and thus, to no longer build the monohtml going forward, because of the loopiness of not having permission to distribute the fo2html.xsl file and the requirement within Apache to distribute an src version with a release.
But it seems to me this issue can be closed.

I've committed removal from the HTML file with revision 1328276, and I've updated the site.
I'll let the HTML changes propagate first, and then drop the referenced files.
As side matters, I think the manuals page changed for the worse now with links even further away from the titles/descriptions. That's however a different issue if anyone wants to pick it up...
I also logged DERBY-5700, a small fix to the web site.

Hi Myrna,
You may be right, but I am not a lawyer. In any event, I have reduced the urgency of this issue. As long as we address DERBY-5586 (removing the xsl script from the repository and disabling future generation of monohtml), then I do not see this issue being a blocker. Let's leave this issue open for a little while longer to let other people add their opinions. If no-one objects to your proposal, then I would be ok with closing this issue in a while. Thanks.
