User address (ALIAS)

Is it possible to set configuration so users can
e-mail to "john" instead of "john@mycompany.org".

Using Windows 2000 for server.

The mailer still needs to know where to send mail for "john." But if you
send directly to a James server, and it has a local user named "john" it
will be perfectly happy to accept it.
