[Vote] Felix-0.8.0-incubator Release
O.k.,
Rick and I have spend some time to update our previous release
proposal to the current version of the repo and already created a
release tag for it. Basically, it should be the same everyone already
inspected a while ago.
Now for the official part, with my shiny Release Manager Hat on,
please vote on whether we as a community accept the following proposed
Felix release:
http://people.apache.org/~rickhall/felix-0.8.0-incubator.html
If this release is accepted by us, then the next step will be to take
it to general@incubator to make it official.
[ ] +1 Accept the proposed release.
[ ] 0 Don't care.
[ ] -1 Reject the proposed release.
regards,
Karl

Forgot to mention; Great Job and "about time" Felix can show the IPMC that we
know what a release is, can self-govern and move out of the Incubator.

Well, NOTICE must contain the
Apache [PRODUCT_NAME]
Copyright [yyyy] The Apache Software Foundation
This product includes software developed at
The Apache Software Foundation (http://www.apache.org/).
text, so others know what we require them to put in. The cost of an extra
DISCLAIMER is very small, but I think it goes a long way with the Incubator
PMC peeps who study these things with microscope (or so it seems).

I stand corrected. Perhaps it is from my own convenience I would like to see,
but I can't find any such requirement in the official docs.

I agree with you, there aren't issues with the notice file of the
bin/felix.jar :-)
anyway, I think that extending the statements related to third party
software with a pointer to the specific license would help.

Great. We need all the help we can get from people with Apache
experience. Neither Rick nor me are experts in this field :-)

True. From my point of view this is o.k. since the felix.jar doesn't
include any third party code and we didn't wanted to create a separate
file for the DISCLAIMER in the binary. Do you think it is a must?
> 2. Shouldn't the NOTICE file include both "from" as well as "which" license?
Well, the approach is as follows, all mentioned sources are ASL unless
there is a separate LICENSE.<name-of-library> file with a different
license on top-level. In this case, we only have LICENSE.kxml which is
nBSD. I was under the impression that it is debatable whether it is
necessary to mention ASL and - let's say - first grade compatible
licenses explicitly in the NOTICE this way?

Well, I didn't inspect then, and thought I would take a look;
1. The NOTICE file in bin/felix.jar is essentially the DISCLAIMER.
2. Shouldn't the NOTICE file include both "from" as well as "which" license?
Otherwise, things looks good to me.

Bear in mind that the purpose of this release is more to show that we
are capable of producing releases, as a step towards graduation, than to
produce a resource that folks will use at this point in time. So what
bugs are or are not fixed is less of an issue. Whether all licensing
details, etc are correct is more of an issue.
