Blocking SPAM!!

Hello everyone, just wondering if there is a simple setting etc, to
block IP's (requests) from hitting the webserver more than a set number
of times a sec, or banning them after continues hits (SPAM).

There are several (third-party) modules that can help.  You can find them
at http://modules.apache.org/.  There is a good article about the topic
