The NPM world has a nice tradition of notifying users when an artifact update is available, or is the artifact is deprecated, or was moved to a different coordinate (e.g. when merging with similar libraries).

It would be nice to be able to do the same in Maven somehow.

WORKAROUND: Output runtime warning messages, but this is undesirable because we want to notify the developer as opposed to the end-user of the application.
