Making a new Action

Hi,

I understand how to implement new actions in the sitemap, however i don't understand exacly how to define those actions.
Actions are java code which i write seperatly from everything else. Do i save this file as a.java or .jsp? What directories do i have to place in into
in order for it to properly compile and for the sitemap to see it? Does this compiling happen automatically or do i have to do it manually?

I read the http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/userdocs/concepts/actions.html page. It has an example action but explains none of the things mentioned above.

Thanks,
Alex Levin
