I have upgraded tomcat from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3 on 2 separate servers using the rpm 
packages. One server is running RedHat 7.2, the other RedHat 7.0. After the 
upgrade, the error message "Error unable to create jar cache in /tmp 
directory : java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file" appeared 
several times for each web application in catalina.out.

I have been unable to locate information in the documentation that shows where 
tmp is configured. The start-up scripts installed by the rpm create an 
environment variable for temporary data, but this is set to [$tomcat_home]/temp 
not /tmp.
