Rajkumar Singh commented on HIVE-19747:
---------------------------------------

it seems that you are missing the object in the command on which you want to grant privileges. the command should be like this

{code}

 grant all on database `default` to user abc;

{code}

> "GRANT ALL TO USER" failed with NullPointerException

>             Project: Hive
>          Issue Type: Bug
>          Components: Authorization
>    Affects Versions: 2.1.0

>            Priority: Minor
>
> If you issue the command 'grant all to user abc', you will see the following NPE exception. Seems the type in hivePrivObject is not initialized.
