cocoon 2.1 release...

hi everyone!

it may not be news to most of you, but i just waded through my backlog
of mails and found an announcement by carsten that he is going to
prepare a cocoon 2.1.11 release between christmas and new year's day.
two minor fixes have been applied since then, otherwise it should be
pretty much unchanged.

best,

jörn

Unfortunately the combination doesn't work at the moment, and I can't
estimate how long it will take to update Lenya and how risky this is.
Therefore I'm slightly in favor of a). I have specified the Cocoon
revision number in the RELEASE_2_0 tag, but if we decide to postpone the
release, we can still change it.

I would prefer b) since it would be so much nicer to release 2.0 with a
stable cocoon 2.1.11.

Releasing 2.0 with Cocoon 2.1.11-dev or 2.1.11? (was: Re: cocoon 2.1 release...)

ATM we have +2 for (a) and +1 for (b). Are there more opinions?

Lenya 2.0-dev seems to work with Cocoon 2.1.11 now, so we could do
another RC immediately. But this would delay the release for at least
another week, unless everyone is confident that we can release without
further testing.

Please state your opinions. Thanks a lot in advance!

Thorsten, if it is difficult for you to find the time to do the release,
please let me know. I can spend a couple of hours today, and again next
week.

The webtests succeed as well. I had to update them in the trunk to some
changes to the GUI, I didn't merge the changes to the 2.0 tag. I hope we
can live without working web tests in 2.0, otherwise we'll probably have
to do another RC.

I set it to revision 603664 which was the current revision when the vote
to release 2.0 from RC6 had been started. The unit tests succeed, and
the application starts up. I didn't do more thorough testing, I hope
this won't be necessary.

a)

then after cocoon 2.1.11 is out, do lenya-2.0a.tar.gz. should be a
drop-in replacement.

It might be a bit risky to tweak our tagged version to work with Cocoon
2.1.11. I see two options:

a) Release the already tagged version with a Cocoon revision before the
    critical changes

b) Update Lenya to work with Cocoon 2.1.11 and do another RC

The endorsed libs are now only in WEB-INF/lib/endorsed. Apart from that,
externals/cocoon_2_1_x is hard-coded in lenya.sh. Can we change this to
the following declaration?

   ENDORSED_LIBS="${LENYA_WEBAPP_HOME}/WEB-INF/lib/endorsed"

I fixed it, the demo is up again with the Cocoon 2.1.x head.

BTW, the zones demo didn't complain because the Cocoon SVN hasn't been

It looks as if there have been some changes to the build process. The
Xalan jar is not copied to WEB-INF/lib anymore, which makes the tests
fail and prevents Lenya from starting up. I'll try to find out what goes
wrong.

RELEASE. it might be necessary to roll lenya-2.0a tarballs if
significant changes crop up during the cocoon release, but i doubt it's
going to happen.

i'm aware of two minor fixes, one was for a ZipSource testcase, i forget
what the other was. somebody announced they had an XHTMLFileSource fix
in their queue that still needs to be committed.
but i don't think we should delay the release - just get it out the
door, if only for psychological reasons (i mean, it just has to be in
2007, right? two years slippage is just a minor faux pas, but two years
one month is really bad release management imho). by the time people
will start playing with it for real, cocoon 2.1 will be out too.

or you could get in touch with carsten and synchronise release
announcements, but only if it really happens in the next 2-3 days...

best,

jörn

that's really good news. Should we wait for it before releasing 2.0? Are
