Re: Questions about Jakarta and JServ

In General:
JServ (servlet engine) + JSWDK (Sun's JavaServer Pages Reference
Implementation) = Tomcat

Tomcat, for the most part, is the merging of several technologies into one
super server. And, it is the replacement for JServ. In addition, it
benefits from the donation of Sun's Reference Implementation of JSP.

Subject: Questions about Jakarta and JServ

I am new to the Jakarta list and was wondering what is the relationship
between the JServ project and the Jakarta project was? The websites describe
Jakarta and JServ as:

"Tomcat, is a world-class implementation of the Java Servlet 2.2 and
JavaServer Pages 1.1 Specifications."

"Apache JServ is a 100% pure Java servlet engine fully compliant with the
JavaSoft Java Servlet APIs 2.0 specification."

There is alot of talk about incorporating JServ code into Jakarta? Is
development on JServ mearly support at this point or is development of new
features continuing? Is jakarta effectively version 2 of JServ or do these
projects have different future plans? Most JSP engines I have seen are just
a servlet that is independant of the Servlet Engine. Will the JSP engine
from Jakarta plug into other Servlet engines like JServ?

Thanks!
