github or ASF SVN?
So I had to go to Asia, then turn around and head to DC,
then turn around again and head up to the Valley, but now
I'm back and trying to catch up.
So there is a new HRS under development in github instead
of the ASF SVN? I'm confused... Who checks what in where?
Why github instead of ASF SVN?

I think that as soon as Stack get everything done on his branch he will put
it up on Svn, but you are better of
asking him about his plans regarding that.

We've all been trying to help out as much as we could along the way.
There's just a lot of code to write.
Andrew, there's definitely been enough done with regards to the return
format and new key format KeyValue to get started on the C/C++ client.
Now that you're back, take a look up in HBASE-880 to see what we've been
tossing around most recently for the client api.
In any case puts, deletes, and results will likely just be lists of
KeyValues (which are binary, language agnostic). Gets are the only thing
that will be useful to have a hierarchical object approach.
Good to have you back. Lots of good stuff brewing!

Sure thing!
It's good to be back. I've lived 2 1/2 months 24/7 out of the
US out of the past 6. I need a break...

Please keep up what you've been doing before you headed off this last time

Thanks stack. I'll keep my eye on this.
Is this something at a close-enough-to-done state where I
might be able to come in cold and yet wrap up for you and
commit while you are away?

Hey Andrew (welcome back).
Here is the URL that refers to where I'm doing the hbase-1234 messing that
Ryan mentioned: http://github.com/ryanobjc/hbase/tree/stack. I thought I'd
have it finished before I took off friday night for some vacation but its
not going to happen; all compiles but now working through the tests one by
one. I'll keep at it but rate of evolution will slow some. Will keep
posting to hbase-1234.

Thanks Erik.
Any idea when this will show up in TRUNK? Next week maybe?
Thanks,

Hey Andrew!
And welcome back. I just want to inform you about something that might
be of interest for you, we are planning to have a new return format from the
server, List<KeyValue>, and the client has to make sense if it at its end,
just
so you know. Not sure if KeyValue is in trunk yet, but check it out on
gitHub.

Thanks!
I'll check out 0.20 SVN HEAD now then and get started on
C/C++ API finally, unless there is something more pressing
where I can make a contribution...
I've been watching my HBase mail folder grow to 500+
entries. That's great to see but now that I'm diving in
I'm way over my head at the moment.

Github is not canonical... hbase trunk in svn is the next 0.20.
Stack has a massive patch incoming to trunk soon which makes major internal
improvements.
Status:
- svn trunk is 0.20, with hfile. Works now.
- github is an in progress change to get rid of hstorekeys and object
creation.

Hey Ryan,
So is the github tree the new canonical tree for 0.20 or
a branch? I can figure out how to move over there to send
up my new edits. I'm just confused as to what goes where.

The problem is the contributors to the latest 0.20 dont have SVN access.
Furthermore the changes are (a) huge and (b) extremely destabilizing and (c)
needs to be checked in often so people can collaborate.
The github is not treated as the source of truth, we generate patches and
file in JIRAs. The hbase SVN->GIT is used to keep things in line and all is
well.
No biggie.
