While you are at it, do you think you can upload some PNG versions of
the logo?

I think PNG is convenient for use on web sites, in presentations, etc.,
and we avoid the compression artifacts of JPEG (which people otherwise
might use if they try to convert from any of the other formats you listed).

OK, I will prepare them and put them up. I think tomorrow I can manage this.

I will put on it an AI, EPS, PSD, The fonts, A paper with colors, A
package with the tiny buttons

Please tell me other things you also need.

Roger,

I created DERBY-747 for this (
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-747 ).

I just closed DERBY-297 to keep the logo contest itself separate from
final activity. :-)

I suggest creating a new Jira issue.

I'll offer to incorporate it into the web site, but I think the first
step is to get the sublines, etc. nailed down and final images in Jira.

Maybe you could upload them to DERBY-297 and then they could be
committed to the Derby site svn tree.

Thanks...

Are there ideas for any other sublines for Derby? Where should I upload
or place the source images?
And how should we put the new logo into the project, which steps are
great for the project?

Let me look into us using the term "Java". It may be that ASF needs to
get a license to the trademark, and then it needs to say "Java TM"
instead of just "Java".

Congratulations on winning.

Is it possible you could provide all the images shown in the showcase as
separate files?

And possibly the logo with text modified to not have the "Pure Java
Database" tag line? I think Sun Microsystems may have some issue with
using such a term, they protect the Java brand pretty fiercely. Unless
someone from Sun points out it is ok.

Thanks,

I agree with you. After all, what links an elephant with PostgreSql?
(I've got to say that whenever I see an elephant at the zoo now I think
of PostgreSql.)

btw, Roger, I really like the simple, elegant lines in the logo you
produced. Thanks for contributing it.

Re: [RESULT] [VOTE] Apache Derby logo

Posted by Roger Dudler <rd...@iframe.ch>.
Hi,

Thanks for voting for my submission. That's a great result for me. But
since I saw your posts about the hat and other kinds of things, I have
to say something to you.

I think the main thing is that I'm actually from Switzerland and my
english isn't that good and well: Derby ? What's this. So I think most
people who don't speak english fluent, don't really link this word with
a special thing like a hat or a horse race event or something other.

So, the goal for the logo would be, that people who look at the skin or
the logo of derby, can recognize: Ah, that one I know. Ok, they don't
really care about what the logo is, they only recognize: Ah, I saw this
one in combination with the word Derby. Mission complete...

The thing with the contest: Look, this content was launched in Spring
04, it took a couple of month to really start the contest and the full
process has or would take near 1 year. So, why don't you want a
decision? The corporate design of the derby project should be here.
Something should be here. Why spend another half year or full year to
decide for a *little* bit better solution, when there are options here.
Take this time to spread the word and the logo. That's the main thing.

For me it's not important, that my submission won. My goal is to help
the project itself. Maybe with ideas or prototypes or whatever. Take the
things you like and make the best with it.
