 Review comment:
   I was following the same pattern for the `Object.assign` which is merging state and controls together. I've refactored it using the spread operator notation.
   ```
   > a
   { foo: 'bar' }
   > b
   { hugh: 'miles' }
   > {...a, ...b}
   { foo: 'bar', hugh: 'miles' }
   ```
