extending new protocol

I am trying to extend JMeter with new protocol for our company's project.
The tutorial here
http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/extending/index.html#uicomponent seems very
outdated. Is there any other document on the net?
I also find out some of the java file is missing in JMeter 2.1 source. For
example, AbstractConfigElement. This file is used by other java file in the
source code and it is missing.
