Output from Log4j

Hi,
I just donwloaded log4j1.2.beta4, and trying to
configure it to make it work as my default logger for
java programs and servlets,
is there a some kind of "How to" which explains step
by step process of doing so, and
also i would like to know if i can get the output log
in XML format, if yes how??
