As Apache Giraph is currently a simple map only MapReduce job (+ ZooKeeper), there is little to do from the Whirr side (Hadoop and ZooKeeper are already supported). You just need an Hadoop cluster and launch your Giraph/MapReduce job.
However if/when Giraph is ported over YARN (see GIRAPH-13) this would make more sense and help users to get up to speed quickly.

Just in time as I started to look more into Giraph.
This would really be quite useful for people wanting to give Giraph a spin on EC2 instances.
Thanks Andrei.

Eli Reisman commented on WHIRR-530:
-----------------------------------

if one builds Giraph using the 'mvn -P' profile appropriate for their Hadoop version and runs it using the bin/giraph script, selecting IO formats and and example algorithm at the command line (etc, new docs on Giraph site are on the way to detail the current CLI options etc), no further configs should be needed out of the box to make it run, as stated above.
