[jira] [Commented] (PHOENIX-922) Support SELECT without a from clause

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PHOENIX-922?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14613266#comment-14613266 ]

James Taylor commented on PHOENIX-922:
--------------------------------------

Excellent, [~maryannxue]. Thank so much for the quick turnaround. Would you mind adding a couple more tests:
- using a constant expression in SELECT without FROM:
{code}
SELECT 2*3*4, 5+1
{code}
- a couple of negative tests where you try to reference a column:
{code}
SELECT foo,bar
{code}
You can definitely add the negative test to QueryCompilerTest and probably the other one too (it'll be a good test that you don't need a connection as you wouldn't have one).

+1 after those nits.

> You should be able to select any "generator" type function from Phoenix without specifying a table. For instance a sequence needs an arbitrary potentially unrelated table just to get the next value. The fix should enable queries like this:
> {code}
> SELECT NEXT VALUE FOR my_seq
> {code}
