Help Requested
Hi,
I am using Tomcat 4.0.and this is on an NT4.0 machine.
My problem goes like this,
If no users are connected are accessing the site then the TomCat shuts down automatically. This happens many times and I tried with Tomcat 3.1 too. Still the things remain the same. I tried to put this one as a windows service and enabled the 'restart' option in the service. But this also does'nt seem to work out fine.
My Qs goes like this,
1) does a similar case of situation ever reported.
2) is this a bug with Tomcat.
3) if this is a bug is there a patch available and where.
4) or is this some thing to do with NT and if so what can be done.
5) or is this a bug with JDK 1.3 as some one in the group commented.
The NT machine runs an apache also as the web server. This runs fine.
We are a s/w development cmpy and we have already made a up a site on Tomcat - Apache. Now the client is complaining about this 'bug'. So the thing as such is very hot.
Immediate responses from your part will be much appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
Rakesh.

Hi!
you can use JDK 1.3.0', but then you will have to create services using JNT
tool.
I have tried it on Win2k and it's working :)

For what it's worth, that bug has definitely been fixed in 1.3.1
with a new JVM flag. IIRC, the new flag disables any shutdown handlers as
a side effect. The bug report on the JDC has numerous links to a very
handy package for installing Java programs as services, but you'll still
have to manually include the new flag (which is documented in the 1.3.1
Release Notes) if you want the correct behavior for NT services.

But, as has been previously discussed (see archives), note that this
will more or less only work on Tomcat4, since other servlet engines call
getServletOutputStream instead. The portable solution is "a bit" nastier
than what Craig outlines above.

That's because of a statement in the Javadocs of PageContext.include()
that requires this behavior.

I'd suggest an approach based on what the generated code created by Jasper
does to implement <jsp:include ... flush="false"/>. It calls a utility
method to wrap the current JspWriter() in a response, and uses
RequestDispatcher.include() to execute the included resource. As a
result, the output is buffered to the current writer and the response is
not committed.
The runtime code that does this is the include() method of the
"org.apache.jasper.runtime.JspRuntimeLibrary" class, which you can get by
downloading the source version of Tomcat 4, or browse it in the online CVS
browser at the Jakarta web site.

PageContext.include and flush
Posted by Harden ZHU <ha...@sympatico.ca>.
JSP will do flush when call PageContext.include even make autoflush=false.
So how can I call include or any similar function like include without
flush? Since in that include page, I have error checkings. If have errors,
then will forward to some pages.
Once JSP flushed, I can't do forward any more. Or any solution for that?
Thanks

This sounds like it might be a very well-known bug in JDK 1.3 on Windows,
where any Java app started by an NT user would be terminated when the user
logged off. My understanding is that this was fixed in 1.3.1, but I don't
use NT so I cannot verify it.
