Coming back to this with new data: I spent the last while building and measuring the same small Linux desktop app nine different ways for an unrelated project (https://github.com/version-fox/vfox-plus/issues/11), Flutter among them. On Linux, with everything else held equal, Flutter came in near the bottom of the ten: 329 MB of PSS on a simple page, against 41 MB for a plain GTK app and well under 300 MB for most of the others (https://github.com/version-fox/vfox-plus/blob/045a56727d2667ba398783ce99f4cbec52b609b5/docs/memory.md).
That's a desktop measurement, not Android or mobile web, so it doesn't settle anything about this project directly, but it's a bigger gap than I expected, and it's made me less confident in Flutter than I was in my last comment. If anyone has real numbers for Flutter on Android or mobile web, or thinks another stack (even one I ruled out above) is worth a second look given this, I'd like to hear it before building much more on top of Flutter here.
