I think this works now, but needs to be verified.

> Currently it was brought to my attention that the project could fail if you are not using jdk 1.7 ( we no longer support jdk 1.6 ) . We should also include support for java 1.8, although we would have to be careful that all code remains backwards compatible with 1.7 for those who do not wish to upgrade.
