[jira] Reopened: (HDFS-229) Show last checkpoint time on the webUI
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-229?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel ]
Todd Lipcon reopened HDFS-229:
------------------------------
Reopening - having the checkpoint time on the 2NN is good, but I think being part of dfsadmin -report would still be useful. Additionally, a giant warning at the top of the NN web UI when it hasn't been checkpointed in some number of hours/days would also avoid issues.
The unfortunate truth is that a lot of shops don't do a good job of monitoring and have had their 2NN failing to checkpoint for weeks/months without realizing it (plenty of evidence on the list of this). A big warning on the NN UI is certainly not a substitute for proper monitoring, but would help users who don't have dedicated ops teams to get that monitoring in place.

> We've had a couple of occasions where secondary namenode fail/die without anyone noticing. (HADOOP-1695)
> It would be nice if the last checkpoint time can be shown on the namenode webui.
