[PROPOSAL] Move camel-extra from google code to github ?

Hi All,

as you know google code will close soon.
What do you think about migrating camel-extra from google code to github ?

please vote

I also reserved a 'apache-extra' organization name if we might need one,
figured that 'apache-extras' was already occupied.

Sorry for the delay, been busy the past few month!

Yes I prefer moving towards Github and personally I don't think that we
should wait for any ASF recommendation. The discussion there is going on
for several month (almost years) now, and I think having a single, common
place where it is easy for contributors to collaborate is great. Github is
probably the more popular option these days.

Best,

Christoph

P.S. Thanks for the huge migration efforts!

I also agree that GitHub should be the home of Camel Extra.
Looking at the ComDev discussion it seems clear that different Apache Extra
projects have very different needs and purpose for why they exist.

Camel Extra needs to be available and invite contributions from developers.
The binary release hosting has been, and I assume will continue to be, done
via maven central and the Sonytype services.

While looking at AOO which seems to have there extras mainly as a place to
store libraries used by internal developers. If I read the discussion on
ComDev correctly.

You're right. Today GitHub is the first choice in every new open source project.
I hope they take the right decision.

committed to the GitHub back to the Google Code again?

Guys, please send the mail to dev-community if you want Camel Extra to use
GitHub. The more our voices there, the better.

Re: [PROPOSAL] Move camel-extra from google code to github ?

Posted by Henryk Konsek <he...@gmail.com>.
They're considering SourceForge? Come on, guys... We have 2015, we should
use GitHub with the proper pull requests, like the civilized communities do.

I propose then to fallback to Google Code again until we know the
final dev-community decision is. @Greg, can you backport the changes you
committed to the GitHub back to the Google Code again?

Guys, please send the mail to dev-community if you want Camel Extra to use
GitHub. The more our voices there, the better.

Re: [PROPOSAL] Move camel-extra from google code to github ?

Posted by Christian Müller <ch...@gmail.com>.
Would like to see your comment on the Apache ComDev mailing list to discuss
this with the other projects. We are not the only XYZ extra project in the
Apache space.
And it's not only about code and infrastructure. It's about the (Apache)
community [1]. It's easy to write (good) code - it's hard to build a (good)
community. That's where many projects failed over the last years...

Again, I'm not against GitHub. Please join the discussion at Apache ComDev
and make your statement there - and may all Apache XYZ extra projects will
end up there.

+1 for GitHub

I believe that it's up to us where to move Camel Extra. We can even fork
the project as "Camel Extra Extra" if necessary ;) Apache Extras doesn't
provide us anything - no infra, anything like that. The committers
convenience should be a priority for us. IMHO ;)

Google Code is writable until 24th August 2015. There is no need to rush
with this decision [1].
As mentioned before by others, there is an ongoing discussion at Apache
ComDev [2] where to move with the Apache Extras project. Please follow/join
this discussion. Camel Extras is a part of Apache Extras.
Don't get me wrong, I like GitHub, but I don't think it's our decision
where to move with Camel Extras.

Hi all,

I finished to push the code to github https://github.com/camel-extra/camel-extra
and started creating the website http://camel-extra.github.io/index.html (very quickly)

We should stop to commit anything on google code and create a link to github repo.

You should get an github invitation for managing github repo, tell me if I miss you.

Hi

I think Github is a good idea. We have some stuff in servicemix-extra too and we must find a new place for it. We
haven't stared the discussion yet. If Github, there is another question. Should it be a separate Github organization
like apache-camel-extra or should it be a part of something common with other Apache extra projects, e.g. something
under apache-extra Github organization. I have seen on DevCom discussion has already reserved the name in Github for
this purpose.

Krzysztof

Hi

Yeah I think github is a great home.

It would be good if we can get Christoph (cemmersb) on board who has
been active on camel-extra to hear his thoughts.
And then get regular releases started again so we can try to get new
releases out that matches the versions from ASF.

Especially if we can make the release procedure simpler at github so
more people can do them and they are simpler and faster to do.
