    Resolution: Not A Problem

UTF-8 is compatible with ASCII (see [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8 here])--there should be no issue here. I'm closing it for now; if anyone believes there's a genuine issue feel free to re-open or create a new issue.
