How to align an inline external-image with the text bottom?

How to align an inline external-image with the text bottom? Adding
vertical-align="text-bottom" to the external-image element doesnt work for
me, nor enclosing the whole text including image in a wrapper with
vertical-align. What is it that I don't understand here? I'm using
fop-0.20.4
