Note that Drag & Drop could not be the main factor here. I noticed this too in
recent versions (where "recent" surely goes back to 3.3, so not recent at all).

Basically, the behaviour of Insert - Picture - From file when a picture is
already selected has now changed. I prefer the old one.

Old: with a picture selected in Impress, insert a new picture with Insert -
Picture - From file: the new picture replaces the old one and takes its size
and settings. This is very convenient when you want to import several pictures
all with the same size (you duplicate the slide, then replace the image).

New: with a picture selected in Impress, insert a new picture with Insert -
Picture - From file: the new picture is imported alongside the old one (i.e.,
OpenOffice does not care that a picture was selected when giving the command).
I find it less convenient than the old behaviour.

Stephen: Drag and Drop aside, is this the problem you wanted to describe? Or
should I open a different issue for this?
